Freundeskreis Radio Marabu e.V. - concept in english
Since 1984 Radio Marabu has been broadcasting it´s freewheeling and eclectic style of music and information without commercial interruption. Beholden to no other corporation, foundation, or government sponsorship for any significant support, it´s programmers are free to express their aesthetic, social and political views without fear that funding will be lost from any small number of sources.
Radio Marabu is a decentralized, multifaceted radio programme conglomeration, working on many levels to promote, broadcast & support most all forms of „alternative" music underrepresented or ignored by the majority of today´s broadcasters.
Radio Marabu is operated by an all volunteer staff and management and is not a radio station per se & not a socalled speciality show to be found on only one frequency. It is more of a broadcast collective, where volunteer members produce Marabu shows in their free time, to be used in many different ways.
Various Marabu DJ´s produce shows usually concentrating on a special area or field of independent music. Hardcore, Wave, Techno, Industrial, Punk and Experimental music are six exemplary, though somewhat amorphous areas of music our DJ´s cover on their shows.
The finished shows are then broadcast and rebroadcast in any of three possible ways:
Regionally, there are at least a dozen FM radios in different countries which regularly present Marabu programmes. Across Europe, these shows are broadcast several hours each month on rented shortwave frequencies.
Thirdly we started 1993 presenting a weekly programme on the Intelsat satellite. These programmes are ceased for the moment due to financial problems at the relaying radio station. At the moment we are working on a restart on the Astra satellite.
The supporting club Freundeskreis Radio Marabu (friends of Radio Marabu), official registered at the local court at Osnabrück, was founded June 1995 by friends and volunteers of Radio Marabu..
With founding an own supporting club we hope to get better financial basis to extend our activities. We hope that your memebership payment will allow us to rent more airtime on shortwave organisations and to spread the programmes on more local radios.
Every club member will get the Marabu-Newsletter as well as our press releases; which we normally send out only to labels and media organisations.
